UK Racketball Nottingham Evening Post Article
Having had a succsesfull first tour event at Nottingham we managed to get an article published in the Nottingham Evening Post which can be seen below.

For those who have not read about the Nottingham Racketball Open the event can be summarised as follows:
The event was a great success for the first tournament in the UK-Racketball series; it attracted 50 racketball players including some of the country’s leading stars.

The tournament was a fantastic demonstration of the level at which racketball can be played and was brilliant for any of the club members who might have thought that the sport was secondary to squash. Racketball would also be a great sport for the older members at Nottingham Squash Club and any that came down were impressed with how long the rallies were in the over 50s and the work out that they were having. Many have since come up to me afterwards to see if they can borrow a racket and have a go, they might begin having rallies that last longer than 3 shots for the first time in years.
In the end Dominic Hamilton won the A grade in a fantastic final against Matt Baker.
The Nottingham Evening Post Article:

The first event in the 2010 UK Racketball series kicked off at Nottingham Squash Rackets Club Saturday 24th July 2010. The event attracted over 50 competitors from all over the country, competing for the first tour title.
Played on just 1 day, the super 16 draw contained 6 players ranked in the English top 20 meaning play was of a very high standard. The first shock of the day happened early on, when local player Chris Fuller beat Gavin Perrett (England no. 12) 2-0. Fuller played with good control and showed mental toughness to close out the match against his higher ranked opponent. Fuller eventually finished 3rd after losing his semi final in straight games to number 2 seed Matt Baker (Devon no. 1 and England no. 8). The final was contested between the top seeded players Matt Baker and Dom Hamilton of Yorkshire (England No. 7) Hamilton used his superior fitness taking a hard fought match 2-1 to claim his first tour title.
This is the first time that Nottingham has been part of the tour and Nottingham Squash Club manager David Coghlan said “This event has been fantastic, a real show case for how Racketball can be played, we were lucky enough to have some of the country’s leading players present and the standard did not disappoint.”
Racketball is a new sport to the UK, arriving from America in the 1980s and is now the country’s fastest growing racket sport. Played on a Squash Court but with a bigger bouncier ball the game is said to be easy to play, difficult to master! It’s a great game to take up for people who have never played racket sports before, but also for keen tennis and squash players.
The tour now heads South for the second round in Croydon on the 7th of August. You can find out all the information on the rest of the tour by visiting UK-Rackteball.com or to play Racketball yourself visit Nottingham Squash Club (nsrc.co.uk)
