Devon and Exeter - St Ivo

Participation to Podium
The Racketball revolution is complete at the Devon and Exeter SRC following the clubs victory in the National Championships in Nottingham this month.
Less than 18 months ago the club had 2 metal hire rackets hidden in a cupboard that were never used, however, following the introduction and revitalisation of the sport by the National Governing Body the club has done the following.
- Replaced a Gym with another Squash and Racketball Court
- Introduced a Ladies morning attended by over 20 individuals
- Has over 50 players in internal leagues
- Holds 6 club and county competitions a year
- Has plans to utilise a workplace league
- Offer a GP referral scheme
Club owner Adam Lings commented “ As a club are main aim was to secure a successful and meaningful business option, this has certainly exceeded all my expectations. Allied to the business angle Racketball is great because it addresses retention of older players, recruitment of new ones as well as providing massive health benefits”
England Squash and Racketball regional manager Matt Baker added “ Once the foundations were in place for the inclusion of all players in this exciting new sport, we then looked at the competitive side of Racketball. All the top squash players realised that an aerobic alternative to what they knew was an interesting prospect and were keen to participate and perhaps see whether they could gain a” headstart” in the UKs fastest growing Racket Sport”

The St Ivo Racketball Detox Competition
The St Ivo Racketball Detox Competition in December gave attendees the chance to work off the Christmas season’s ex-cesses. What was planned to be an hour and a half session, became an all afternoon affair, hosted by Byron Williams at the St Ivo Outdoor Centre.
The children in attendance had a chance to try Racketball for the first time whilst others were able to hone their skills. It was an opportunity to learn the basic strokes and get a feel for the game, with the emphasis on fun.
Coach for the day Byron, explained each exercise after which there was time to practice before the competition. As mentioned the day was finely rounded off with a mini Racketball tournament. Those that played had a great time with the top 3 places receiving a medal. A big thank you to Byron Williams and the St Ivo Racquet club for taking the time to organise the event.
