The Venom 170 incorporates M-Fil technology
The M-Fil (Multi Filament) is a combination of three materials that are incorporated into the hitting zone of the racket head to enhance the touch and feel of the
racket where and when you need it most - at the moment of ball contact. The 3D Braided structure at these key points enhances torsional stability at ball contact while frame deformation is similarly reduced. This helps to enhance dwell time on ball impact for improved touch and feel.
4D technology is included in this Venom 170
4D stands for 4 directional braiding and has been introduced to enhance racket stability and control. 4D Braided material is constructed using four braided fibres of superlight composite fibres wrapped in an alloy sheath. The fibres are aligned at 0, 90, 22 and -22 degree orientations which enables stresses to be supported in multiple directions whereas standard carbon sheets are only orientated in a single direction. This means that one layer of 4D Braided material has the equivalent properties to four layers of standard carbon positioned at different orientations making it 4 times more effective without increasing the overall weight of the racket. 4D Braided material has been incorporated into the racket lay-up at the following key locations:
• At 5 and 7 o’clock, the multi-directional properties of the 4D Braided cloth help stabilise torsional twist making the racket more stable and enhancing control.
• At 3 and 9 o’clock, 4D Braided cloth provides torsional stability and, as a result of only one layer being used instead of several, this material also provides superb racket response at ball contact. 4D Braided technology perfectly complements the raw power of Aerogel to create the perfect blend of control and power.
The Dunlop Venom has a great colour scheme and in my opinion really looks the part. The racket has a really good touch and feel at the front playing good consistent drops. I found I could hit great quality counter drops with the Venom which is often hard to do in racketball. As well as this I felt like I could really hit all my targets with great accuracy and could hit controlled lengths. However the racket lacks power which comes from its head light weighting meaning I found it hard to generate any real pace on the ball making it tricky to attack from the back of the court. This would be a great racket for the controlled defensive player who counterpunches, feeding off their opponents attacking shots.
