Yet again the Falconer brothers dominated this event held on 21-22 April at the Hallamshire Tennis & Squash Club, Sheffield. Harry retained the under 15 title and Hamish retained the under 17 & 19 titles. Matilda Parslow did rival Hamish, as she added the under 19 to the under 17 title she won last and this year.

This was the 3rd year the championships have been played at the Hallamshire and its popularity is growing. This year the category of under 11 was added. The recently redeveloped facilities were enjoyed by the Players and supporters.
Certain events were played as Round Robin events (the under 11 Boys & Girls under 13 Boys) as fewer than 6 players entered. Some events were merged to allow for more matches using a Monrad format (under 19 & 17 Boys & Girls and Girls under 13 & 15).
Both the Boys and Girls under 11 events were all Hallamshire competitions with 5 boys and 4 girls playing each other. The boys under 13 only attracted 6 players but Ben Merchant (Yorks) made the journey worthwhile as he beat all his opponents to take the title. The girls under 13 event was won by Hallamshire’s very own Charlotte Jagger. She also competed in the under 15 event and was narrowly beaten by another Hallamshire member, Lucy Ward. The boys under 15 final featured one of the Falconer brothers, Harry. He had a thrilling win against James Cumiskey (Worcestershire).
Both the under 17 and under 19 titles were won by Harry’s elder brother Hamish Falconer (Lincs) and Matilda Parslow (Yorks). They both eased through the under 17 event, defeating Oliver Turner & Holly Moore. The under 19 finals were rather more hotly contested with great rallies and some super shots. Hamish played Oliver Turner again with some amazing rallies, it kept the audience on the edge of their seats. Matilda played fellow Yorkshire lady, Jade Thompson. This was a close match that could have gone either way, and it did go to 5 sets with Matilda just edging it 3 – 2.
The Championships once again attracted a really high standard of racketball. For the whole weekend there was a great atmosphere at the tournament with the participating Juniors and their families and friends. The great organization by the Hallamshire staff, referees and parents all contributed to the smooth running of a really great event that will be in the calendar once again for 2013!
