Tournament Schedule
I have tried to spread the matches out across all of the courts so it might be that you have one match on courts 1 to 3 and another on 4-6. If you look across all three of the files below you should be able to see all of your matches.
There are a few players taking part across multiple grades. I have avoided clashes as much as possible. On the day it might be that some courts run quicker than others. If there are clashes we will adjust the court board to manage this.

- All competitors are guaranteed at least three matches!

The popularity of this event has meant that there has sometimes been waiting periods between matches. This year we will aim to have all C, D and E grade group stage matches finish before lunch. This means that A and B grade matches will not begin until after lunch. All semi-final and final matches will then take place later in the afternoon.

Grades and squash levels

- Follow this link to squashlevels to see your level - www.squashlevels.com
- The PDF below has the grades for 2020 and the levels of different players in each grade. We anticipate that 2023 will be very similar so enter the grade that is reflected by your squashlevels

Select the grade that you would like to enter. For the most part we will stick to this however if some grades sell out then we might need to move players into different grades. We will use SquashLevels to help us do this but will still use subjective judgement as SquashLevels, although accurate in many regions is not completely accurate across all regions.
There might be a situation where players in a lower grade do have a higher SquashLevels than a player in the grade above.
There are a couple of reasons for this. The first is that I will not drop players down by more than one grade (they might have doubles specialists and squash levels only takes into account singles). I have taken into account how early people entered as I think that this is fair. I hope that this all makes sense, where possible I have tried to keep people happy so that everyone has a great time on Saturday!

Timings and faqs

The most frequently asked questions that we receive are around timings, when the day is likely to start and when you are likely to finish. Until all of the entries are in it is obviously impossible to know how much time the event will take up but if it mirrors 2020 below are the main timings.
Grades C,D and E: 9:00 start with group stages finishing by roughly 14:00 - players will then go into a knockout, once a team has lost they will be finished.
Grades A and B: Start around midday
Mixed Grade: Start at 9:00 with the group matches running throughout the day.
Tournament finals, if you make it all the way and the presentation is likely to be around 20:00
At the bottom of the page is links to the previous years events, this will give you a good idea on how everything has shaped up in the past.

A look back at last year the Nottingham Open Doubles 2022
It was fantastic to return to the Nottingham Squash Rackets Club for the biggest Squash Doubles event in the country. After missing out last year, the 2022 Nottingham Open Doubles was a chance to catch up with some old friends and get back on court for some great squash! With more courts available than in previous years, we were able to run Quarter-Finals in each grade, with the top 2 from each group making it through to the knock-out stages. This kept groups alive for longer than before, and produced some huge results and upsets to the seedings across all the grades.
The Mixed Grade got things underway over on court 10, with an early start and matches continuing throughout the day. There were close matches and upsets throughout, with the grade being best summarised by Group C. Three pairs finished on 5 points, and having each beaten one of the other there was no way to split them at the end of the group stage! Matt Thompson/Jess Morgan, Andy Hopwood/Saoirse O'Sullivan, and Alex Whitehouse/Elaine Radcliffe then played a mini-knockout to see who would progress, with Thompson/Morgan going through as winners and Whitehouse/Radcliffe in second. Number 2 seeds Sam Gibbon/Faiza Zafar would knock out the Number 1 seeds Mike Andrews/Hayley Openshaw-Blower in a tight 2/1 Semi-Final, with Gibbon/Zafar going on to beat local pair Elliot Green/Lucy Townley in the final, a repeat of their earlier group stage match.
In the E Grade, top-seeded Nottingham pair Jane Berry/Susan Pynegar won all of their group matches, and were joined in the semi-finals by Brian Gibbon/Greg Robson. In Group B Richard Burton/Mike Sturrock, Garrie Darling/Mick Deakin, and Ed Purse/Richard Davies each won 2 lost 1. Burton/Sturrock came through as group winners by virtue of an extra game, with Purse/Davies in second having beaten the Darling/Deakin pair earlier. In the final, Burton/Sturrock would put a stop to Berry/Pynegar's excellent run of form to take the title for the E Grade.
The D Grade continued the trend of tight matches and unseeded pairs taking the fight to higher-ranked teams. Group D presented another closely-fought group with all pairs scoring wins throughout. 3 pairs finished on 4 points, with the final pair close behind on 3. Elaine Radcliffe/Roxy Keshavarz and Mike Broadbent/Jet Stoker would progress to the Quarters having won the most matches, with Radlcliffe/Keshavarz going through as group winners by virtue of victory over Broadbent/Stoker. With the 1, 4, and 6 seeds not making it through, this grade was wide open as the quarter-finals progressed and the title looked to be anyone's for the taking. In the first SF, 5 Seeds Wayne Scott/Graeme Pembury got past 8 Seeds Frank Sheeran/Nick Gollaglee in a close encounter. The second SF saw the 2 and 3 seeds go head-to-head, with Aisling Guerzoni/Hayley Openshaw-Blower winning a spot in the final over Radcliffe/Keshavarz. Guerzoni/Openshaw-Blower would go on to win the final, dropping just the one game the whole day.
The C Grade saw a last-minute change, with an on-the-day dropout opening the way for Metheringham Daniel Carlile/Jack Buckley to play. They made the most of the opportunity, winning 2 of their group stage matches and coming through in second place. 3 of the top 4 seeds had been knocked out by the time the Semi-Finals came around, with Carlile/Buckley losing out to Angus Clapham/Sam Burton in the first and 3 Seeds Matt North/Josh Stinson overcoming Toby Westall/Mark Oliver in the second. NTU pair North/Stinson would go on to win the final and take the title for the C Grade.
The B Grade was filled with drama, as injuries and upsets took out the 2 and 5 seeds in the group stages. Top seeds Ivan Garrahan/Kieran Heaphy looked in cruise control for most of the day, comfortably winning their group and making it through both the Quarters and the Semi-Finals. They were joined by 4 Seeds Tom Pepper/Jonny Duffield from Wigginton, who enjoyed a similar run of form to set up a highly-anticipated final. In a match which saw momentum swing one way and another, the neither pair wanted to give an inch but it was Pepper/Duffield who eventually completed the upset and took home the title.
It's a testament to the quality of the grades and the competitiveness of everyone involved that it was only during the A Grade that the seeded pair all made it through unscathed. Top seeds Adam Turner/Nick Wall Jnr and 3 seeds Owain Taylor/Michael Andrews looked in ominous form, both pairs coming through without dropping a game. The semi-finals saw the top 4 pairs battle it out, with Adam Taylor/Tom Bamford putting up a huge fight against Turner/Wall Jnr in the first SF but not able to pull off the upset. Fresh from his Mixed Grade SF, Michael Andrews joined Owain Taylor in the second A Grade SF against Adam Auckland/Matt Gregory, with the former proving a bit too consistent for the 2 seeds. In the last match of the day, Taylor/Andrews took on Turner/Wall Jnr in front of a packed Nottingham crowd. Drawing on the support from behind the glass, Taylor/Andrews put up a huge fight with both pairs enjoying spells of momentum and swings of points in their favour. The Sheffield pair eventually pulled away, and when they won the second 12/10 Adam Turner and Nick Wall Jnr took the Nottingham Open Doubles title for the first time.
Congratulations to everyone involved, and a huge thank you to Nottingham Squash Rackets Club and all the staff who made the day possible.
We look forward to seeing you all again next year!
