2025 Open Intercounties, A/B Grade and Ladies Preview!
With the Masters event having been a great success, we now can’t wait to see how the A Grade, B Grade and Ladies event goes. Coming up on the 14th and 15th of June in Wolverhampton, we have our largest entry to date across the categories, plus a great mix of new and strong teams to boot!
Heading up the A Grade, the top two seeds are last year’s runners up Surrey, who by the sounds of it have strengthened up their team again this year in their title challenge, and Leicestershire, who have the likes of current British Over 35 National and Open champion Ali Mutch in their lineup. Last year’s winners Devon are still in the hunt, but are missing a couple of players from their victorious side from last year so they sit as 3/4 seeds alongside regular front runners Warwickshire.
In the Ladies draw, while it’s a shame that last year‘s champions Yorkshire can’t make it to defend their title this time round, it’s really great to see that we have two new counties in Dorset and Surrey taking part. They look to be the favourite as it stands, but with experienced regulars Devon and Lincolnshire also in the draw, who knows what will happen!
This is the first time we’ve had five ladies side in the event and it’s a really positive indication as to the continued growth of the Ladies game, especially with the fact that there are a couple of more counties that should be involved next year.
The B Grade draw is always an interesting and entertaining mix of some of our Series B Grade regulars, some of our age group category players, and some newly converted Squash players. As such, it’s very hard to predict who is looking like being in line for the title!
Having said that, last year‘s runner up Surrey will be one of the front runners and without last year champions Wiltshire involved, we could potentially see another new county as champions. It’s also great to have a Welsh team in for the very first time, hopefully this combined with the Welsh open in July is starting to show how the game is picking up more and more across the River Severn!
We will be trying to live stream as much as the action as possible so tune in across the weekend, can’t wait!
