All of the successful Racketball centres have one thing in common, someone on the ground who is able to both deliver a good session and build a community around the game. One of the most successful of these in the UK is Peter Edwards at Chapel Allerton.
Peter Edwards did stress to me that starting Racketball can sometimes be a slow build but that the initial investment is worth it once you have a vibrant community at your club.
Example Weekly Club Racketball Schedule – Chapel Allerton
Mon 11:00-12:00 (U3A) 7-12
Tue 18:00-19:30 (intermediate)
Wed 18:00-19:30 (advanced)
Fri 11:00-12:00 (U3A)
Fri 12:00-13:00 (Racketball games, which is basically a hidden handicap)
Fri 13:00-14:00 (ladies beginner racketball)
Sat 15:45-17:45 (racketball games for a bottle of wine, fun related)
Sun 10:30-12:00 (beginner/intermediate session)
Sun (Racketball doubles, fun tournament with everyone changing partners)
Internal Competition
It’s important to have structures in place that allows for play away from the sessions. Internal box leagues, club championships or Christmas handicapped competitions help to keep players motivated, playing different people and building up their friendship network at the club. Peter Edwards also runs a Racketball mini league.

Internal Club League
This works like an external club league with a start and end date. The advantage of this is that you have something to build towards and a finals night to look forward to. September to December is the Chapel Allerton dates.
Links with local clubs
Peter has worked hard to build good links with the surrounding Racketball Clubs. Harrogate, Collingham and Chapel Allerton all participate in a mini league. This helps to provide a variety of opposition and some stress free local competition.
Local Racketball Series
Around 5 years ago Peter Edwards founded the Yorkshire Racketball Series. These events which take place over just one afternoon are a great way to meet new players and try your hand against new opposition. They provide a great stepping stone between club and competition play.
Players that enjoy the competition of the local Series would really enjoy the challenge of playing in the UK-Racketball Series. 10 events throughout the UK, most of which are one-day events that are designed for players of all ages and abilities.
