Exeter Golf and Country Club were looking to find a way to drive their Racketball participation numbers up from within their own club membership. This meant looking to try and convert tennis/golf/swim/gym members into trying out a brand new sport. Some of whom had never played any racket sport of any kind before.
So they set up three blocks of 5 week long Beginners Racketball group coaching sessions. 6pm - 7pm on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday evenings (times where the majority of people would hope to be able to make it.) These were open to both Men's and Ladies participants.
Cost for a session block was £50 per person, and they also all recieved a Karakal Beginners Racketball racket plus a ball to get them started on their playing journey. The aim behind this being to make it as easy as possible to keep playing outisde of the groups, therefore getting into the game more.
After the 5 weeks of coaching had taken place, the club then did a 4 month trial membership for all attendees, where they could add Squash/Racketball to their membership for a short period to be able to trial the club monthly ladders and be able to get more involved in the section.
Out of 25 course attendees, 15 signed up for the trial membership after the blocks had finished, with then all of them choosing to continue their membership after the trial period had finished. They now play regularly in the Beginner Racketball boxes, with a few of the strongest progressing into the main club Racketball ladders aready. A fantastic example of how players from ages 30 - 65 could get involved in the game and get the bug for it! In addition to this, a few of the players started getting their young childeren involved in the Squash Junior program so an added bonus.
