MB-Nottingham Racketball 2011
Men’s A-Grade.
Dom Hamilton gave a great performance and came through the top group without dropping any games.
In the second group. Neil Chambers had a tough time of it against Michael Hennings, dropping a game. Curtis Tomlinson just came in at second place beating Michael Hennings 2-1. Michael Hennings had a rough day losing all games 2-1.
Tom Phipps, UK-Racketball Series leader, struggled in Group C and was defeated by Andrew Wienson and Christian.
Matt Baker just managed to scrape through in Group D, but lost in the semi-final.
Dom Hamilton played Andrew Widdeson in a fantastic Semi-Final. Dom could easily have lost, and was really close to at times, but eventually came through as the winner.
Niel Chambers beat Matt Baker comfortably to set up the final. Dom Hamilton continued his unbeaten UK-Racketball run to beat Neil Chambers and take another title.
B Grade
Anthony McCarthy came through as tournament champion in his grade without dropping a single game.
Second place Lee Walton came through to the final without losing a game but couldn’t face up to the challenge and lost 2-0 in the final to Anthony McCartney.
It was a bad day for number 30 seed, Nick Burton who only won two of his group matches and ended the tournament in 7th place.

In the women’s grade, Claire Walker came out on top after a satisfying win against Natalie Lawrence in the final. Natalie had a good tournament, only really being tested once, but Walker was too good for her and it showed in a 2-0 defeat in the final.
It wasn’t a good day for number two seed, Matilda Parslow who got wiped out in the semis after a great performance in the group stages.
Over 40’s Grade
Rob Watkins fought tooth and claw to beat Mark Webster in the semis and again had to show resilience in a brutal final against Ian Cawthorne that went right down to the wire. Rob Watkins was victorious, winning the final 2-1.
Ian Cawthorne seemed strong coming into the final, having not dropped a game. However, he eventually had to give in to Watkins.

Over 50’s Grade
The over 50’s saw no surprises with number 3 seed, James Murphy, facing number 9 seed, Manuel Costa in a tightly matched final. However, Manuel Costa came out on top winning the final 2-0.
Earlier in the day, James Murphy had had a brutal match against Roger Kenyon, losing 2-1. Roger did well in his other games, but not well enough to reach the semis.
Geoff Clay won all his group matches 2-0 but couldn’t hold up the fight against Manuel Costa in the semis, losing 2-0.
Over Beginner’s Grade
There were some very close matches in the group stages. Joe Cowley lost 2-1 to Dariusz Wanatowski in a brutal match. Liam Truswell held Stewart Lowth to the line in their tough group match that ended 2-1 to Liam.
Truswell and Wanatowski went on to wiin their semis against Joe Cowley and Rich Taylor respectively, both winning 2-0. Truswell and Wanatowsk faced each other in a tough final that went well for Wanatowsk, who won 2-0.
