The East of England Racketball Championship is going to be held at Peterborough Town Sports Club on Saturday October 20th. The idea is to hold a Monrad style open singles for men and ladies and a mixed open doubles for men, ladies and anything in-between.
Please see a poster explaining a little but more and entry form Word attachments.
But by way of explanation here’s a summary of what’s being organised. A Monrad style is a knockout where the winner goes through to play winners and the losers go through to play losers in the next round. I’m aiming for an entry of 16 for each competition. The nature of the competition is that each round should produce closer and closer matches. If there is a sufficient entry we will split the men singles into grades but until we know how many players decide to enter it is the one grade at present. It means if the entry is 16 then everyone will play four matches - but no matter the entry at least three matches (best of three to 11) are guaranteed for everyone.
The tournament will coincide with PTSC’s Oktoberfest. So there will be a Biergarten with plenty of refreshments (alcohol and non-alcohol) during the day. There’ll be plenty of German sausage available for those who want it and vegetarian options too. All tastes catered for. In the evening there’s going to be a marquee which will hold the main festivities - best dressed Herren und Damen, Stein holding competition and a terrific oompah band and rock’n’roll sing-a-long.
If you haven’t played doubles, well that’s another story as the rules are similar to table-tennis in that it’s alternative shots by each pair. Doubles will be draw for partners going high/low, so the best players will pair up with the less strong to even the pairs out. This is going to be very interesting!
So, if you fancy having a go in a friendly but competitive competition send your entry in to the organiser, Rennie Kapila in Peterborough, details on the posters. We also guarantee a friendly reception at the club which has hosted several successful racketball competitions in the past.
Entry fee for the racketball is £15 for one event and £20 if entering the doubles on top. Prizes will be for first place, runners-up, ninth and one randomly drawn prize - so for those who may lose every match there’s still a chance of walking away with something tangible for the efforts!
The cost of the separate evening Oktoberfest do (from 7.00 pm) is £15 plus a £5 refundable deposit for a Bier Stein or a Gluhwein mug. See poster for more details.
It should be a great day and evening. See you there - auf wiedersehn for now!
It's a fantastic entry again for Chichester. With still a month to go we only have two places left in the draw. Please enter as soon as you can to avoid disappointment. All entries after this will be added to the reserve list. As always with UK-Racketball events entry priority goes to the first person to enter rather than who is higher in the rankings.
